Having met with disaster in the Aegean, the hulk of an old shipwreck rusts off the rocky coast of Milos, one of the Cycladic islands, the very same where Venus de Milo came from.

The dazzling beauty and serenity of the Aegean belie a sea with many hidden dangers as countless shipwrecks can testify. Ranging from small prehistoric craft to more modern vessels, they are a boon to archaeologists who have filled many a museum with exquisite finds (my favorite being the Antikythera mechanism).

That of course would be small consolation to the families of those who never came back.
