Jaywalking in Greece is the rule rather than the exception. Sure, there’s a law that penalises it, but I’ve never heard of it enforced. If it ever were, one would have to fine the entire Greek population.
In this photo, policemen casually cross the street in Syntagma square, paying little heed to the pedestrian crossing just a few yards away. They are not the only ones – in the chaotic streets of Greece one would be hard put not to jaywalk. But more about that in my next post.
