Snow and cold gone, the skies have become clearer and the temperature has gone up.
Walking downtown in sunny Athens, I couldn’t help snapping a photo of Apollo, overlooking one of the busiest streets in Athens (Panepistimiou Ave.).
And one interesting observation: notice how the 19th century artist has rendered the ionic capital of the column in perfect imitation of ancient colours, but (although he obviously knew well that marble was painted over in antiquity) he has stopped short from colouring the statue itself, constrained by deeply ingrained ideals (from the Renaissance onwards) of what is right in art.
